2011 Ladies Reports

Ladies Junior B Champ Final – Kilcock 1-14 Kilcullen 4-3 – Sat 17th Sept 2011

Kilcullen Ladies suffered final defeat heartbreak losing out to a very good Kilcock side by two points after an excellent game of football in Sallins.  The Ragettes started the game very well scoring 2-2 in the first quarter of the game with Clare Kelly and Jayne Peacocke getting 1-1 each.   However, Kilcock finished the half strongly and held a 0-9 to 2-2 lead at the break.
Kilcullen’s ability to get goals has been a highlight of their play all year and when Peacocke netted her second, they went into a 3-3 to 0-10 lead before Kilcock got their only goal of the game to go back into the lead.   Kilcock added further points to stretch their lead, but Peacocke completed her hat-trick to bring the Ragettes right back into the game.   Peacocke was then cruelly denied by the cross-bar from scoring her 4th goal, and Kilcock held on for what was probably a deserved victory.    Kilcullen were devastated at the final whistle, but can be proud of an excellent year, playing some great football and reaching the league semi-finals and the championship final.  They have a very young team, and will be back again, while an excellent Kilcock side will be confident of making an impression in the Junior A Championship next year.
Best for Kilcullen were Zainab Afolabi, Daire Smyth, Clare Kelly, Jayne Peacocke Kayleigh Cogan and sub Lorraine Schwer.

Ladies Junior B Champ Semi-Final – Kilcullen 7-18 Na Fianna 4-11 – Sun 11th Sept 2011

Yes, that is the correct score!   Kilcullen came out on top after this really entertaining championship semi-final.   The Ragettes took full advantage of the wind at their backs in the first half, with some fantastic attacking moves and scores to take a 4-14 to 1-3 half-time lead.   The highlights were well-taken goals from Jayne Peacocke and Ciara Pembroke, while Kayleigh Cogan scored a few wonderful points.
To their credit, and despite the half-time scoreline, Na Fianna gave it everything in the second half, and got some fantastic scores of their own, and scored 3-8 in the second half.   But Kilcullen managed to get 3-4 themselves against the wind, with goals from Sinéad Maher and Emma Doyle (from a perfectly executed penalty), while Jayne Peacocke completed her hat-trick.
Both sides can take a lot of credit from this game, with the victors outstanding and Na Fianna were left scratching their heads at scoring 4-11 and losing by 16 points!    Kayleigh Cogan was outstanding for Kilcullen, while Clare Kelly, Emily Vaughan, Emma Doyle and Ciara Pembroke all excelled too in a good all round team performance.

Ladies Junior B Championship – Kilcullen 4-15 Na Fianna 2-8 – Tue 16th August 2011

Ladies Senior Div 3 Semi-Final – Kilcullen 1-4 Ballykelly 2-16

An excellent second half performance by a strong Ballykelly side proved too much for Kilcullen in this Dvision 3 semi-final.   The Ragettes started well, with Kilcullen’s Claire McDonnell scoring an early goal after good work from Jayne Peacocke and Emma Doyle.   An even first half finished with the teams level on a scoreline of Kilcullen 1-3 Ballykelly 0-6.    However, in the second half, Ballykelly were the better side, although the final score was very harsh on the home side.  Best for Kilcullen were Karen Bell, Clare Mulrennan, Clare Kelly and Ciara Pembroke.

Ladies Senior Div 3 – Kilcullen 2-4 Na Fianna 2-8 – Tue 21st June 2011

An understrength Kilcullen Ladies team were beaten by 2-8 to 2-4 by Na Fianna after a scrappy game played in terrible weather.     The conditions certainly didn’t lend themselves to good football, and a very low scoring first half finished 1-2 to 1-1 to Na Fianna, with the Ragette’s 1-1 coming from Jayne Peacocke.    The second period began brightly for the Ragettes as Peacocke buried a second goal, after a defence splitting pass from Lorraine Schwer.     However, Kilcullen only added 3 more points in the remainder of the game, while the visitors more accurate shooting gave them a deserved win.
The Ragettes, who never lack for effort, gave their all, and the experience will stand to the younger players.   They are still in a good position in the league, and will still be confident of a successful campaign, with some important players to return.   Best for the home side were Aoife Molyneaux, who made a string of brave saves and blocks,  Karen Bell, Clare Kelly, Nikki Dowling and Jayne Peacocke.

Ladies Senior Div 3 – Kilcullen 4-8 Ballykelly 2-11 – Tue 31st May 2011

Kilcullen produced a remarkable comeback to take an injury time victory against Ballykelly tonight.    The Ragettes were a point down in injury time, before Claire Kelly showed excellent composure to place the ball in the corner of the net to put Kilcullen two points up, and a Jayne Peacocke point sealed the win.
The game was played 13-a-side which led to a very open game.   Ballykelly got off to a flyer, and scored 1-3 without reply in the opening five minutes, including a goal after only 30 seconds.    The visitors dominated most of the first half, but goals from Aoibhinn Smyth and Sinéad Maher meant that the visitors only held a two point half time lead, on a score-line of 1-7 to 2-2.
The second period began almost identically to the first, with Ballykelly getting a first minute goal, and scoring a number of well taken points.   The visitors were actually 7 points up at one stage, but the Ragettes refused to give in.   Kilcullen appeared to have claims for a penalty, but the referee deemed that the foul took place outside the square.  But, Jenny Murphy made the referee’s decision irrelevant as she buried the free to back of the net, and this started the Kilcullen revival.  Substitute Jayne Peacocke had been unable to start the game due to injury, but she gave the Ragettes an extra threat at the edge of the square.   The momentum was now with the home side and a couple of points from Jenny Murphy, and points from Sinéad Maher and Jayne Peacocke, meant Kilcullen went into injury time trailing by a point, when Claire Kelly made the decisive contribution with her well-taken goal.
Jenny Murphy was the outstanding player on the field for Kilcullen, while Aoibhinn Smyth, Sinéad Maher and both Claire Kellys all also excelled.

Kilcullen Line-up:   A.Molyneaux;  K.Bell, C.Mulrennan;  A.Boland, D.Smyth, C.Kelly;  A.Smyth(1-0), C.Kelly(1-1);  S.Maher(1-1), J.Murphy(1-3,1-2f), L.Schwer(capt)(0-1);  A.O’Toole, N.Murphy.

Ladies Senior Div 3 – Kilcullen 4-16 Moorefield 1-10 – Tue 10th May 2011

Kilcullen Ladies delivered an outstanding all round team performance to convincingly beat a good Moorefield team.   The Ragettes have now won five out of five games played in the league.   Moorefield were actually the better team in the early stages of the game, but they kicked a number of wides, including two good goal chances.    But Jayne Peacocke made no mistake with her goal chance which meant the scores were level at Kilcullen 1-2 Moorefield 0-5 mid-way through the first half, despite the Moors early dominance.   However, the Ragettes then dominated the rest of the game and were clinical in attack, with a deflected goal from Kayleigh Cogan, and a second goal from Peacocke after wonderful work from Ciara Pembroke helping the home side to a 3-5 to 0-6 half-time lead.
Kilcullen were relentless in the second half, and continued to pile on the scores.    They played some excellent football, and got some great scores, the highlights of which were a well taken goal from Sinéad Maher and great point-taking from Clare Kelly, including a wonderful point from an acute angle.   The blonde Clare Kelly in attack was probably Kilcullen’s best player, while Ciara Pembroke also played very well, she was very unselfish in attack and set up a number of scores.  Others to shine were the other Clare Kelly, Emily Vaughan, Nicole Murphy and the clinical Jayne Peacocke.

Kilcullen Line-Up:   A.Molyneaux;  A.Boland, K.Bell, C.Mulrennan;  E.Vaughan, D.Smyth, C.Kelly;  A.Smyth, N.Murphy;  S.Maher(1-1), K.Cogan(1-2,1f), C.Kelly(0-6);  C.Pembroke, J.Peacocke(2-5,2f), A.O’Toole(0-1).

Ladies Senior Div 3 – Kilcullen 4-9 Athgarvan 0-5 – Tue 20th April 2011

The Ragettes made it 2 wins out of 2 so far in the league, with an emphatic victory over neighbours Athgarvan.   The visitors started well, scoring the opening two points of the game, and also Kilcullen lost captain Lorraine Schwer to an early injury.  However, when Sinéad Maher scored a well-taken goal to put Kilcullen a point up, the home side would not relinquish the lead for the remainder of the game.  They went on to lead by 2-4 to 0-2 at the break, the second goal coming from Emma Doyle, early substitute for the injured Schwer.
Kilcullen continued to dominate in the second half, and got some lovely scores, including a classy goal from Ciara Pembroke, and some good points, particularly from Jayne Peacocke and Aoibhinn Smyth.  The final score of 4-9 to 0-5 was a fair reflection on the game, with Daire and Aoibhinn Smyth, Sinéad Maher, Jayne Peacocke and Ciara Pembroke all impressive in a good team perfrmance from the Ragettes.

Kilcullen Line-Up:  A.Molyneaux;  C.Kelly, K.Bell, C.Mulrennan;  E.Vaughan, D.Smyth, A.Boland;  L.Schwer(capt), A.Smyth(0-2);   S.Maher(1-0), K.Cogan, C.Kelly(0-2);  C.McDonnell(0-1), J.Peacocke(0-3), C.Pembroke(1-1).
