Ladies Notch First League Win of 2016

Senior Division 3 – Castlemitchell 0-6 Kilcullen 8-16 – Tues 12th April

Kilcullen got off the mark in the league with a comprehensive 8-16 to 0-6 win over Castlemitchell. Having lost their opening game and seeing their round 2 game postponed, the Ragettes were determined to get a win on the board and came flying out of the blocks at the start of the game. Playing down the hill on the Castlemitchell pitch, Kilcullen put together a string of great attacking moves, while defending excellently at the other end to take a 4-10 to 0-2 half-time lead. The scores kept coming in the second half, and the Ragettes took the opportunity to give all four subs plenty of game time. The visitors added a further 4-6 to take an 8-16 to to 0-6 win. In fairness to Castlemitchell, they never stopped trying right to the final whistle and were awarded a penalty late in the game, but Kilcullen keeper Aoife Molyneaux made a good save to hold on to a clean sheet for her side.

In an excellent all round team performance Dáire Smyth was outstanding at centre back, defending brilliantly and getting forward to score a well taken goal. Katie Willis was also excellent, while Sinéad Maher, Nanci Murphy and Ciara Pembroke were lethal in attack.
