Rags cause major Championship upset:
Kilcullen 1 – 8; Sarsfields 1 – 7.
It was one of those evenings.
The first round of the County Championship. Kilcullen against the reigning County Champions, Sarsfields at St Conleth’s Park. The Rags go toe to toe with the Champs.

Score for score in the first half. Half time and its all to play for, six points apiece. Into the second half and scores are hard to come by, but the Rags edge in front by one point and then by two. Sarsfields come back into the game and sneak a point. Minutes to go, can the Rags hold out? Then a freakish goal is scrambled into the Kilcullen net by Sarsfields. Linesman’s intervention and Kilcullen are down to fourteen men.

Referee signals that there are two minutes left. But the Rags are far from finished. Displaying a fierce determination and pride in the jersey they sweep up field in search of the all important goal. Mick Williams puts his body on the line in a crunching tackle that leaves him on the ground but his effort means that Kilcullen retain possession. The ball is switched to the other side of the field, Captain Paul Maher collects and coolly delivers an inch perfect pass to Christopher Howard who is just on the pitch, and Christopher slides the ball to the net off the bottom of the right hand post.

The kick out, the final whistle and the Kilcullen supporters erupt, Sarsfields supporters look on in disbelief. Game, set and match to Kilcullen. This is championship football at its very best. And it's only the first round!

SENIOR CHAMPIONSHIP 2006:
The first round of the Kildare Nationalist Senior Football Championship kicks off this weekend and Kilcullen's first opponents in Group D are no-less than last year's County champions and Leinster finalists Sarsfields. The Senior team come in to this match on the back of some indifferent league form but it should be stressed that Sarsfields have not exactly been setting the pace in this competition either. The Sash will have some high-profile absentees most notably injured county stars Dermot Earley and Padraig Brennan and with some of the Rags Senior players coming back into the fold against Carbury, Kilcullen might fancy their chances of causing an upset.
All support is encouraged in what could be a historic day for the club.
Kick-off: 7:00pm, Saturday - St.Conleth's Park (County Grounds), Newbridge.

Poor League Form Continues:
A late rally from Carbury was enough to see them through to a comprehensive 2-12 to 1-7 victory over the rags on Saturday evening. All the team's efforts will now be focused on turning this poor form around when they play county champions Sarsfields in the championship this Saturday.

Carbury Fixture:
The Senior team will be hoping to carry a win into next week's championship match when they make the long trip north to Carbury this Saturday in the league at 6pm. Carbury have been a bit of a thorn in our side in the past few years so a win here would give the rags a welcome boost before facing the county champions the following week.

Weekend Fixtures:
The Seniors will be out for revenge when they play Kilcock at home in the league at 6pm on Saturday. Kilcock have already beaten the Rags this season, in the Aldridge Cup, but have not managed to carry this early form into the league so Kilcullen will be hoping to get back to winning ways here.
Meanwhile the U16's will be hoping to continue their excellent run of results when they play St. Kevins on Friday at 6:45pm,also at home.
All support is appreciated.

Mixed fortunes for Kilcullen:
The Senior team have yet again came out the wrong side of a close encounter with a Newbridge side which was once again played in terrible conditions. As Kildare had no fixtures to fulfill, all of the Moore's inter-county stars were able to return for this match with an in-form Roley Sweeney contributing 2-3 to the final 2-6 to 0-8 scoreline.
