Leinster Under 21 Championship:Best wishes from all in Kilcullen GAA to Brian Bell who lines out for Kildare Under 21's against Meath in the Championship in Navan at 3pm on Sunday. An away to trip to Meath is a tough task, especially with Meath having accounted for Dublin in the previous round. However, Kildare have a strong team with Padraig O'Neill, Tomás O'Connor, Ian Lonergan, James Kindregan, Tommy Archbold, Gary White, Alan Smyth and Michael Conway all expected to feature. Hopefully a large contingent from Kildare including a good few Rags will make the trip to Navan.Underage Fixtures:U16 Football League Round 1 Division 3 - Nurney v Kilcullen - Sat @ 4pm. John has been a selector and manager on numerous occasions before. Mick was the Junior Manager last year and will take a break from refereeing to concentrate on Kilcullen.Sigerson Cup:Best of luck to Jamie Lambe who lines out for the Garda College in Templemore against UCC in the Sigerson Cup tomorrow. There will be a number of inter-county players on both sides.All-Ireland Semi-Finals:Also best of luck from all in Kilcullen GAA to Moorefield and Confey in their respective Senior and Intermediate All-Ireland Semi-Finals on Sunday, which take place as a double header in Limerick.
Seniors Lose Dramatic Game:Kilcullen lost a cracking game to Leixlip by 2-14 to 2-12 after extra time, in the Aldridge Cup yesterday. The Rags showed great battling spirit to get back into the game, which they were losing by 1-7 to 0-1 at half time. However, they came out with all guns blazing in the second half and the game finished 2-10 each at the end of normal time. Leixlip then outscored Kilcullen in extra time, but it was a very promising performance. New captain Mick Williams led by example with a final tally of 1-5, despite also having a penalty saved.
Competitive Action Begins:Kilcullen has it's first competitive fixtures of the year with the Seniors and Minors both in action. The Seniors are away to Leixlip in the Aldridge Cup at 2pm on Saturday. Also, on Sunday the Minors play at home to Raheens in Division 4 of the league at 11.30am.
Senior League Draw Made:The draw for the Leinster Leader Senior League Division One was made in an open draw on Monday Night. Kilcullen have been drawn into what could arguably be called the easier side of the draw but will still require an excellent start to the season to be involved in the top-tier after the split. The full draw is as follows:
Division 1A: Kilcullen Confey Celbridge Ballymore Round Towers Athy Rathangan Allenwood
Division 1B: Kilcock St.Laurence's Monasterevan Ellistown Sarsfields Moorefield Clane Carbury
As was stated previously, a new format for the league is in operation this year. Each team will play once against each team in their group. After these 7 games, the top 4 teams out of each group will from a Division 1A with the top of the table of this group being crowned league champions. The bottom 4 teams out of each of the initial groups will form a Division 1B with the bottom team from this group being relegated. There will be no more league semi-finals, final or relegation play-offs.
Seniors First Outing:The Senior team had their first game of the year on Saturday when they took on Rheban in a challenge game. Although the game ended in a narrow defeat for Kilcullen, there were plenty of positives to be taken from the game. There was a large turnout of players and they all got a run. There was a couple of debuts, and a return to the fold of a couple of others.
