Opening Day Defeat For Rags:A classic game of two halves was played on a cold night in Ellistown on Saturday. The referee threw in the ball to start Kilcullen's league season but the only side who seemed to notice were Ellistown who immediately started to pile on score after score leaving the Rags down by 1-9 to 0-2 at half-time, both Kilcullen scores coming from Cormac Aspell frees. However, a much more determined Kilcullen team emerged in the second half, who managed to keep their opponents scoreles for twenty five minutes and made far better use of posession. In fact, the gap was brought down to the minimum 1-9 to 0-11 with 10 minutes left when substitute Darren Barker had a glorious goal chance to put Kilcullen in the lead for the first time in the contest but this was luckily saved by the keeper. It was this passage of play which finally seemed to re-awaken Ellistown however and they managed to put some scores on the board in the closing minutes making the first league points of the season safe for the hosts.

Aided by a strong breeze, Kilcullen got off to a flyer with a couple of early goals by John "Chalky" Whyte. Kilcullen were 2-3 to 1-2 up at half time. Baltinglass upped the gears significantly in the second half, and with the help of some great point taking, and some Kilcullen mistakes ran out comfortable enough winners by 3-12 to 3-6.
