Rags Fail To Topple Towers:Kilcullen lost by 0-10 to 0-9 against Round Towers in Senior Division 1 tonight. Towers got off to a good start and led by 3 points early on. But The Rags finished the first half the stronger to go in at 4 points each. An already depleted Kilcullen defence suffered a further blow when Darren Barker had to be taken off injured. As in the first half, it was the Kildare town men who rattled over they early scores in the second half and take a 4 point lead, with TJ Waters in good form. Kilcullen came back at them again but couldn't back on level terms because of some wayward passes and shots. Best on the night for the Rags were Brian Bell and Shane Lambe.

Out Of Sorts Rags Fail To Fire:A lacklustre Kilcullen were beaten 2-9 to 0-8 by Rathangan last night. A goal in each half, the first after thirty seconds, was enough to provide a comfortable cushion for Rathangan to win this game. Despite having the lions share of possesion in the second half and dominating midfield for long periods, the fact that they kicked 10 second half wides meant they could never get into contention.

Juniors Open With Draw:Kilcullen Juniors played their first league match tonight and drew away to St.Kevin's. In a very even game, the Rags held a 1-5 to 0-6 half-time lead, thanks to Mark Brophy's goal. They held on to the lead for the majority of the game until St.Kevin's fought back towards the end to draw level. The final score was 1-9 to 0-12, and although the Rags could have won the game, a draw was probably a fair result. The younger players shone for Kilcullen with Barry Comerford, David Hickey, Aidan Carroll and Mark Brophy all outstanding.

Kilcullen Grind Out Result In Kilcock:Kilcullen's fine first half performance was enough to see them through as they beat Kilcock by 2-6 to 0-10 tonight. The Rags had a great first half and lead by 1-6 to 0-3 at the break, the highlight being a wonderful flowing move that finished with Brian Bell scoring a fine goal. However, Kilcock ebbed away at Kilcullen's lead in the second half through John O'Donoghue's excellent free-taking. Paul Jones got Kilcullen's solitary score of the second half with a goal. Best for Kilcullen were Ronan Aspell, Darren Barker, Kevin O'Brien, Jamie Lambe and Brian Bell.

Kilcullen Draw With County Champions:Kilcullen put in a fine performance to draw 1-10 each with Moorefield last night in an excellent game. The Rags got off to a flyer with an early Brian Bell goal and stayed in the lead for the rest of the half, to lead 1-4 to 0-5 at half-time. Moorefield stepped up a gear in the second half, to lead twice, but both times the Rags showed great heart to come back, especially after Roly Sweeney's excelent solo goal. Best for The Rags were Mick Williams who scored two great long-range frees, Cormac Aspell who also scored some fine points, while Jamie Lambe and Darren Barker were a thorn in the Moors side all night with their running and skill.

Rags Battle To Victory:Kilcullen produced a fine second-half display of fight and nerve to battle back and beat Athy by 0-14 to 1-9 (despite the best efforts of the scoreboard operator!). The Rags got off to a flyer and were in front by 0-4 to 0-1 with the help of a strong breeze. However, with the wind dying down, Athy finished the first half very strongly and held a 0-7 to 0-5 lead at the break. Then the second half had barely began when Athy scored a well-taken goal, and the Rags appeared to have a mountain to climb. But they didn't panic, and the scores came, with the Kilcullen players all really standing up to be counted. Another impressive part of the performance was that four Kilcullen players had to be taken off injured over the course of the game, yet it didn't knock the lads out of their stride, with all the substitutes contributing enormously. After a couple of defeats, this will give Kilcullen a lot of confidence for their upcoming games. Best for Kilcullen on the night were Jimmy Burke who was outstanding at full-back, Mick Williams showed great leadership in midfield, while Cormac Aspell put in a faultless display of free-taking.
Kilcullen Line-Up: Paddy Maher; M.Dooley, J.Burke, R.Aspell; B.Fox, Paul Maher(capt)(0-1), D.Barker; W.Kinsella, M.Williams; J.Lambe(0-1), B.Bell, C.Fox(0-3); P.Jones, C.Aspell(0-7,6f), J.Whyte(0-1). Junior Friendly Defeat:Kilcullen Juniors had their first game of the year last night with a challenge match away to Athy. They faced a tough task against a strong Athy side who operate in the division above The Rags. Athy dominated the first half and led by 2-4 to 0-1 at the break, although one of the goals was extremely fortuitous. Kilcullen played a lot better in the second half, but Athy got another scrappy goal and never looked back from there and won by 3-10 to 1-8. Best on the night for Kilcullen were Seán O'Brien, Thomas Davis, Tadgh Shanahan and Mark Brophy.
Kilcullen Line-Up: B.Hickey; A.Conlan, S.O'Brien(capt), S.Burke; D.O'Connor(0-1), G.Shanahan, H.Hannigan; B.J.Corcoran, T.Davis(0-3); O.Nolan, T.Shanahan(0-1), M.Brophy(0-2); D.Phelan(0-1), B.O'Brien, A.Clarke. Subs Used: C.McMahon, A.Kennedy, M.Dooley, W.Condron(1-0).
