The draw for the second round of the Intermediate 'B' Championship has also already been made with the Rags due to meet Kill.
The Intermediate team's championship fixture has also been confirmed. Kilcullen will play Nurney at 6pm next Saturday in St.Laurence's. Challenge Draw:Kilcullen drew with Athy in a challenge match last night. Kilcullen were actually six points down in the first half but two quick fire goals got the rags back on level terms and a score for score affair for the rest of the contest finished with the honours shared. The final score was 0-13 to 2-7. Kilcullen Line-Up: S.Barker; M.Dooley, J.Burke, C.McMahon; B.Fox, K.O'Brien, Paul Maher(capt); W.Kinsella, T.Davis; C.Fox(1-1, 1f), D.Barker(0-1), C.Aspell(0-3, 1f); J.Whyte(0-1), J.Lambe(1-0), P.Jones. Intermediate Football Championship Round 3:Kilcullen have been drawn against Nurney in the third round of the Intermediate Championship. Nurney drew in Round 1 with last year's finalists Ballymore but then had to endure a heavy 2-10 to 0-7 loss to Rathangan the last day out. However the new championship format means almost everyone has something to play for and with county stars Willie heffernan and Mikey Conway in their ranks Nurney will be a tough test for the Rags. Congratulations:Congratultions are due to Kilcullen player Donal Droney who won Escort of the Year at this year's Rose of Tralee festival last night. The full story from Donal's win from today's Independent can be found by clicking [here].
All Square in Championship:Kilcullen drew their second round Championship match with Johnstownbridge last night with the contest finishing with a final score of 1-10 to 0-13. The rags made a very slow start to the contest and struggled to get decent posession in the first half. Johnstownbridge on the other hand were creating chances and with the aid of a well-worked goal and some excellent point scoring from county panelist Keith Cribben went in with a lead of 1-6 to 0-5 at half-time. Kilcullen came out a different team in the second half and really took the game to their opponents whose tactics became more and more negative as the half wore on. Collie Fox was on hand for Kilcullen to punish their indiscipline kicking eight frees in total throughout the match. The last few minutes were a score for score affair and after Kilcullen equalised the match they were awarded a free in injury-time wide on the left hand side of the field. Cruelly, the free just dropped short however and referee Mick Monahan blew the final whistle to share the points. The Rags can be proud of their second half display are now in a good position to qualify for the quarter finals. Best for Kilcullen were Ronan Aspell, The Fox brothers and Shane Lambe while Paul Jones made a significant impact when introduced as a substitute.Kilcullen Line-Up: Paddy Maher; M.Dooley, J.Burke, Paul Maher(capt); B.Fox, R.Aspell, K.O'Brien; W.Kinsella, T.Davis; D.Barker, S.Lambe(0-1), C.Fox(0-9,8f); C.Aspell(0-2,1f), J.Lambe, J.Whyte. Challenge Win:Kilcullen have continued their good record in recent challenge matches when beating Rathvilly by 2-11 to 1-8 in what turned out to be a bad-tempered affair on Friday night. A goal each from Collie Fox and substitute Jamie Lambe proved to be the difference in a match that also saw a missed Kilcullen penalty and two Rathvilly players get their marching orders. Best for the rags were the Fox brothers and John Whyte who accounted for most of Kilcullen's scores.Kilcullen Line-Up: Paddy Maher; M.Dooley, J.Burke, C.McMahon; B.Fox(0-3), R.Aspell, Paul Maher(capt); K.O'Brien(0-1), T.Davis; D.Barker, S.Lambe, C.Aspell(0-1,1f); C.Fox(1-2,1f); P.Jones(0-1), J.Whyte(0-3).
