Happy New Year:
It's been a while since the site was last updated so there's a lot to read through. The club would like to wish all our members and community a happy and peaceful New Year. Let's all hope for a successful 2009 for the club both on and off the field.
'Wags and Wellies' a Big Success:
A fresh St.Stephen's Day morning gave us perfect conditions for our first Wags and Wellies match. This was an idea brought forward by Karen bell earlier in the year and it was certainly worth the wait. Porkey (Town mayor) threw in the ball at 11am and for the next hour there was a mixture of chaos and craic even though at times there was some mighty tackling from the ladies (Wags).
With the lads wearing the wellies, they adapted a hand passing game which certainly took the Wags a while to adapt to defending. However the wags started to get the upper hand with the help of some good scores and a faulty scoreboard!
The last 10 minutes saw most of the action as Mick Spenser took over the refereeing duties from Henry Barrett. Some of the lads threw on the Wags jerseys and things certainly heated up with some super tackles ending up in a sending off, countless frees and a penalty which ended up being being the final kick of the match. Karen Bell stepped up against Paddy Maher and the finish was fantastic as she slammed the size 4 into the top corner. After the final whistle, it was Amy Moran who captained the Wags to victory and lifted the Emigrant Cup kindly given to us by Chairman John Mulhall and presented by Club President Pat Lynch. The match was organised to raise funds far a defibrillator for the club and local community. We would like to thank all those who supported us on the day and Karen Bell who organised the day which was enjoyed by all present.
DVD's of the match are available to purchase. Please text or phone 085-1060730 for details.
