Kilcullen were much improved in the second half, and got back within a point of Kilcock, with Cormac Aspell particularly impressive. However, Kilcock got a couple of late scores to seal the victory. A match that had started in good spirits, also threatened to get out of control at some stages, due to some questionable officiating, with a Kilcock player and Fergus Aspell seeing red. Ellistown dominated the first half and led by 0-7 to 0-2 at half-time, and when they tagged on another two points early in the second half, it looked all over for the Rags. However, Kilcullen refused to give in, and Kevin Fox made the most of a long ball to fist to the net over the onrushing keeper, to put the Rags back in the game. Darren Barker added a fine solo point, and then substitute Mark Brophy was brought down in the area. Thomas Davis despatched the resulting penalty kick with ease, to level the scores. Ellistown then went ahead again, but the Rags weren't to be beaten and got the equaliser from a Colm Fox free. Final score was Kilcullen 2-4, Ellistown 0-10. Rags Draw With Allenwood:Kilcullen started Division 1 with a very encouraging draw with Allenwood. The Rags were failing to make the most of a strong wind in the first half, until Johnny Browne scored a controversial goal. Kilcullen led by 1-6 to 1-4 at half-time. However, Kilcullen actually played better against the wind, with the move to centre back of Darren Barker having a telling effect, as he went on rampaging runs from the back to set up attacks. Kilcullen led by 1-10 to 1-8, and then by 1-11 to 1-10, and therefore might have taken the win, but Allenwood deserved Mark Hogarty's levelling point to make it 1-11 each. Man of the match was Thomas Davis who dominated midfield, Darren Barker had an exceptional second half, while Shane Lambe and Colin Fox also played well.
