Under 21 B Shield Semi-Final - Kilcullen 1-6 Monasterevin 1-14 - Sun 13th Nov 2011
Monasterevin were comprehensive winners on the scoreboard in this semi-final, but the game should have been a much tighter affair, if it were not for some very wasteful shooting by the young Rags. It was very even for most of the first half, but Monasterevin got 3 unanswered points in the last few minutes of the half to take a 0-8 to 0-4 half-time lead. Kilcullen made a number of switches at half-time, and Eoin Jennings was moved into the forwards, and it worked straight away, as a great team move culminated in Jennings finishing to the net to leave a point between the sides. But the story of the remainder of the game was Monasterevin's ability to take their chances, while Kilcullen were tending to either take on the wrong shot, or just hit basic opportunities wide. There was still only three points in it with around 10 minutes to go, but it was Monasterevin who got the second goal of the game that the Rags craved, and it was all over from there really. However, the Rags certainly never lacked for effort and Johnny Caplis, Shane O'Connor, Adam Phelan and Franny Shortt all did well.Kilcullen Line-Up: D.Fisher; G.Kenny, J.Daniels, J.Caplis; R.Toft, S.O'Connor, H.Peacocke(0-1); E.Jennings(1-0), F.Shortt; J.Keatley(0-2f), P.Bell, A.Phelan(0-1); R.Clarke, D.Hickey(0-1), D.Keane.
